Head of Operations
Axiom Therapeutics
About Axiom Therapeutics
Axiom Therapeutics has developed a next-generation covalent drug discovery platform combining physics-based simulations with machine learning, to design novel small molecule covalent therapeutics for previously undruggable protein targets.
The company was founded by Ryan Geiser, CEO (Cambridge PhD in Biophysical Chemistry, Gates Scholar, ex-Lazard), and Chris Haggard, CTO (Cambridge PhD in Computational Chemistry). We are supported by leading deeptech investors and advisors including Jon Ellis (ex-GSK), Dan Nomura (Frontier Medicines, UC Berkeley), Ed Tate (Imperial), Leo Wossnig (ex-LabGenius), Thomas Clozel (Owkin), and Lord David Prior (former NHS Chair).
About the role
We’re hiring a Head of Operations to play a pivotal role in how Axiom Tx runs and scales. This is a high-leverage role reporting directly to the CEO, with broad ownership over internal, financial, and commercial operations.
You’ll work closely with Axiom Tx’s Co-Founders, acting as a force multiplier to turn strategy into action, keeping key priorities moving, and stepping into tasks that are the most important as the company grows.
It’s a role for a hands-on operator who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys being close to impactful science, and wants real responsibility shaping how an early TechBio company actually runs.
What you’ll do
In practice, you will:
Partner with the CEO and CTO to translate strategic intent into clear priorities and plans, before actioning them
Own the company’s operating rhythm, including company planning cycles, leadership meetings, and decision tracking
Own and improve day-to-day company operations, including finance, grants, vendors, and external partners
Support Axiom’s founders in fundraising, partnerships, and investor communications (e.g. research, preparation, follow-ups)
Work with the CTO on scientific operations, including CRO management and coordination with external collaborators
Build and refine lightweight systems and processes that can scale with the company (e.g. onboarding, goal-setting, internal communication)
Support with hiring and organisational design as headcount grows
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for a high-judgement operator who is comfortable sitting at the centre of a growing company and taking real ownership over how it runs. You know what early-stage, deeptech growth actually looks like and enjoy bringing clarity without unnecessary bureaucracy.
You might be a great fit if you:
Have experience operating in a deep-tech, high-ambiguity environment (startup or scale-up)
Have worked closely with founders or a senior leadership team, where trust, context, and speed matter
Have a track record of taking loosely defined problems and turning them into concrete outcomes
Are comfortable working cross-functionally with highly technical and non-technical teams
Are deeply curious, organised, proactive, and follow through to reach your goals
More than any specific title or background, we’re looking for someone who:
Has a strong bias to action and ownership.
Demonstrates sound judgement and low ego.
Communicates clearly and directly, especially in complex or ambiguous situations
Is comfortable making progress with incomplete information
Domain experience
Experience in biotech, life sciences, chemistry, physics, or AI, is a strong plus. That said, curiosity, respect for technical depth, and the ability to learn quickly and ask good questions matters most.
What success looks like (3–12 months)
Founders trust you with key operational decisions and processes
Priorities move forward without constant CEO involvement
The business feels faster, clearer, and more resilient
The CEO spends the majority of time on strategy, fundraising, and partnerships
