Who we seek:
We are seeking a Senior Privacy Counsel to join the legal team, reporting to the General Counsel. The ideal candidate will have experience building and maturing privacy programs in close partnership with cross-functional teams. This individual will be responsible for ensuring compliance with global privacy and emerging AI laws and regulations, proactively managing related risks, and serving as BigID’s subject matter expert on privacy and AI law. In this capacity, they will also partner with our Product Management team to help build and enhance our privacy offerings.
What you’ll do:
- Monitor global privacy and AI laws, translating complex requirements into practical guidance for business and product teams.
- Participate in the AI Governance Committee to help shape and implement BigID’s framework for responsible and ethical AI use.
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to embed Privacy by Design principles throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Conduct DPIAs and AI risk assessments on products, systems, and vendors to proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks.
- Conduct DPIAs and AI risk assessments on products, systems, and vendors, and maintain up-to-date RoPAs to proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks.
- Support the commercial legal team by drafting and negotiating DPAs and complex privacy and AI terms in customer and vendor contracts.
- Draft external and internal-facing privacy and AI documentation, and develop training materials to promote a strong company culture of privacy and responsible AI.
- Manage the Data Subject Request fulfillment process and provide legal guidance during data incident response investigations.
- Provide strategic guidance to the Product Management teams, helping guide the roadmap and development of BigID’s privacy product offerings.
What you’ll bring:
- 7+ years of direct experience in privacy law, with a strong preference for in-house experience at a tech company.
- Experience advising on AI governance, risk management, and the evolving AI regulatory landscape.
- J.D. and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- A highly collaborative spirit with the ability to operate autonomously and build strong cross-functional relationships.
- A pragmatic, business-oriented approach to problem solving and risk management.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal concepts for non-lawyers.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CIPP, AIGP) are highly desirable.

The annual base salary range is $185,000-$200,000. Actual salaries will vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies. Salary is just one component of our Compensation Philosophy. Variable/Bonus Compensation & Equity Incentives align with individual and company performance.
