About Decentro

Decentro is a Y-Combinator backed banking & payments infrastructure company. Decentro provides building blocks that help companies stitch their fintech workflows in a few weeks. While starting our first fintech venture back in 2014, we spent years convincing banks to partner with us. Before we could launch our fintech product (more here), we had to convince different departments within banks - including technology, business, leadership, legal, and support to get the green signal. Fast forward to today, we realise that banks & regulatory institutions find it difficult to help the longer tail of companies build innovative & compliant fintech solutions.

What if there was a platform (think AWS for cloud or Twilio for messaging) that abstracts the complexities of banking, identity, payments, lending, and provides simple APIs so that companies do not have to spend years dealing with banks?

We’re solving this pain point at Decentro since 2020. We’ve scaled to process $4 billion + in payment volumes & have 1400+ customers across India & Singapore in multiple verticals such as marketplaces, banks, regulated institutions, fintechs, lenders, gaming, and more.

Decentro seeks a Senior Security Engineer to own our information security posture and DevSecOps practices in a hands-on IC capacity. This senior individual contributor will lead our small security team, reporting directly to the CISO or engineering leadership, while mentoring a DevOps Engineer and Infosec Associate.

About the role

Decentro is looking for a backend-heavy Data Engineer who can build and scale the data
backbone powering product analytics, operational intelligence, financial reporting, partner
reconciliations, and internal platform use cases. This is not a pure BI role; the position is closer
to a data-platform and backend engineering function, with ownership across pipelines, storage
layers, event flows, data reliability, and developer-grade infrastructure.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with high-volume transactional datasets,
API-driven systems, and security-conscious financial infrastructure. The role will involve close
collaboration with engineering, product, operations, risk, and leadership teams to ensure that
data systems are fast, trustworthy, and production-ready.

What is expected from you

  • Design and build robust batch and near-real-time data pipelines for payments, banking,KYC, risk, ledgering, and reconciliation use cases.
  • Develop backend-heavy data services and internal data products that expose clean, reliable datasets for downstream consumers.
  • Model and maintain highly scalable data stores, schemas, and ingestion frameworksacross structured and semi-structured sources.
  • Work on integration of new and existing databases, while ensuring the stack is built forspeed, scalability, and reliability.
  • Build and maintain ETL and ELT workflows, orchestration layers, data quality checks, and failure recovery mechanisms.
  • Partner with backend teams to instrument events, improve data contracts, and enablebetter observability across services.
  • Optimize SQL, storage design, partitioning, and compute usage for large-scaletransactional and analytical workloads.
  • Design systems with strong attention to security, access control, auditability, andcompliance-ready data handling, aligned with the company’s emphasis on securefinancial infrastructure.
  • Contribute to CI/CD, deployment hygiene, and engineering best practices in tandem withhe broader platform and backend teams, reflecting Decentro’s current engineeringexpectations.

What are we looking for

  • 4 to 7 years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering with strong dataownership, or data platform roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and SQL; Decentro’s engineering roles explicitlyemphasize Python and database design as core skills.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, schema design, warehouse design, and queryoptimization.
  • Experience with orchestration and pipeline tooling such as Airflow, Dagster, Kafka,Spark, or equivalent systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native data infrastructure on AWS or GCP, including objectstorage, compute, managed databases, and warehousing systems.
  • Strong experience with database design and management, which aligns closely withDecentro’s existing backend hiring patterns.
  • Good understanding of APIs, event-driven architectures, distributed systems, and service-to-service integrations.
  • Appreciation for clean, well-documented code, version control, testing discipline, andproduction-grade engineering practices, all of which are highlighted in Decentro’spublished engineering roles.
  • High ownership, strong problem-solving ability, and a willingness to learn and adaptquickly, matching the team qualities called out in Decentro’s job listings.

Good to have

  • Experience in fintech, banking, lending, payments, or regulated infrastructureenvironments.
  • Exposure to reconciliation systems, settlement workflows, ledgering, or risk and frauddatasets.
  • Working knowledge of data governance, PII protection, encryption, and audit trailrequirements.
  • Familiarity with BI and self-serve analytics tooling such as Metabase, Looker, or Superset.
  • Experience building internal developer platforms, data APIs, or reusable platformabstractions.
