Owkin is an AI company on a mission to solve the complexity of biology. It is building the first Biology Super Intelligence (BASI) by combining powerful biological large language models, multimodal patient data, and agentic software. At the heart of this system is Owkin K, an AI copilot and its new LLM fine-tuned on biology called Owkin Zero, used by researchers, clinicians, and drug developers to better understand biology, validate scientific hypotheses, and deliver better diagnostics and therapies faster.

About the role:

Owkin is looking for a People Ops Manager to support the day-to-day activities of Owkin’s People team. You will work closely with the People Ops Manager / HRBP managers and the Culture and offices team to ensure that employees are treated fairly, given the resources they need to succeed at their jobs and help deliver on the global people strategy.

Working in our fast-paced startup environment, you’ll be an integral part of managing the onboarding/offboarding process, responding to day-to-day questions and concerns, organizing paperwork, ensuring that all templates are up-to-date and accurate, and working on cultivating a great work environment.

The role is critical to providing top-level HR support to the business, as well as all of our Owkinautes throughout their entire employee lifecycle, while ensuring that our US and UK offices are fostering an environment where teams thrive by being their own and best selves.

This position is based in our NY or Boston office and we expect a presence in the office at least 3 days a week.

In particular, you will:

On People Ops part, you will:

  • Act as direct HR point of contact for employees in the USA and UK, taking ownership of queries and/or issues raised and seeing them through to resolution.
  • Drive the processing and management of payroll for the UK (Payfit) and support the USA.
  • Maintain accurate online records of employee’s information in our HRIS (HiBoB).
  • Support the employee life cycle including leading the on/off boarding and leave management.
  • Assist with the recruitment process by issuing employment contracts.
  • Process and issue various employment documentation, including benefits details.
  • Documenting workflow and procedures, updating existing processes and proactively finding opportunities for process improvement.

On Culture and Workplace part, you will:

  • Be the go-to person for daily office management in the US/UK.
  • Keep the private office organized, welcoming, and well-stocked with supplies.
  • Conduct office benchmarking and provide recommendations for future office arrangements, including potential moves, lease renegotiation, renewal or exit.
  • Manage relationships with office suppliers and conduct periodic benchmarking (e.g., F&B provider, maintenance, coworking).
  • Support smooth onboarding and offboarding experiences, ensuring employees have everything they need from day one.
  • Lead monthly calls with US and UK teams, implementing agreed actions and nurturing strong relationships.
  • Maintain up-to-date office documentation (Drive/Notion) and manage invoice processing via Navan.
  • Organize team lunches, after-work events, workshops.
  • Coordinate meeting room bookings for teams.

About you

Required qualifications / experience:

  • Knowledge of US and UK HR administration / payroll requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational development, employee relations, and training and development.
  • Passionate about people and how they function together to create a valuable organization.
  • Strong communication skills within a multi-cultural, international environment.
  • Start up / Scale up experience - understands the pace and rate of change required.
  • Minimum of 3 years as an HR Manager
  • Effective HR administration and leading through influence.
  • Fantastic organizational and time management skills.
  • Fluent in English.

Preferred:

  • French and/or another language is a plus.

Pay Transparency

The compensation range for this role in the USA, typically starts at $75,000 USD plus an equity option scheme, individual and family health insurance, 401k retirement, generous annual leave allowance of 35 days (in addition to any State or Federal recognised holidays) and flexible spending accounts.

Individual compensation packages will vary based on factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience, assessed through the interview process. Owkin reserves the right to modify compensation structures based on business needs, geographic location, market conditions, and other factors.
