WHAT YOU WILL BE GETTING INVOLVED IN:
The role will be heavily involved in the month-end close process for multiple entities. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations, and supporting internal stakeholders with payroll-related inquiries.
As we are still a small team, you can expect to get involved in many aspects of the finance function; however, your key responsibilities will include:
Process bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payroll for employees across multiple departments and entities
Review and verify timesheets, wage calculations, and deductions
Maintain payroll records and ensure data integrity in HRIS and payroll systems
Prepare and distribute payroll reports for management and finance teams
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and tax forms
Assist with year-end processes including W-2 and 1099 preparation
Collaborate with HR and Finance on benefits, compensation, and audits
Support system upgrades, implementations, and process improvements
THE TOP 5 THINGS WE WANT YOU TO ACHIEVE IN YOUR FIRST YEAR ARE:
1. Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing throughout the organization
2. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, tax regulations, and labor standards
3. Provide prompt, professional assistance to employees with payroll-related questions and concerns
4. Generate accurate payroll reports for finance, HR, and other key stakeholders within the business
5. Identify inefficiencies and help implement upgrades to payroll systems and workflows to save time and minimize payroll risks
WHAT YOU MIGHT BRING TO THE TABLE:
You don't need to tick all the boxes to apply for this role. Whether it's your first or fifth role, we believe everyone can add value, learn, and grow.
However, these might be some of the ways you are currently adding value:
Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday)
Strong understanding of payroll regulations and tax laws
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification
Experience with HRIS systems and Excel reporting
HOW WE WILL INTERVIEW YOU:
We keep our interview process concise and efficient, and we’re a nimble team that can move forward quickly. Here are the stages you can expect, but we might switch up the order of each step depending on team availability:
Introductory call/interview with Devin, our Senior Talent Partner. The call is via telephone and will last around 30 minutes
If there is an initial fit for all, we will invite you to a 45-minute video call with the Accounting Controller. This more structured interview will deep-dive into the role and technical needs
We will then invite you to a 30-minute video call with the hiring manager. This more structured interview will deep-dive into the role and technical needs
All of our roles will have a small assessment stage. This may be in-person, a take-home assessment, or additional video calls. Length varies, but we’re mindful of your time and keep it as simple as possible
