The Opportunity

The Senior Security Engineer handles the digital security for Symend and their client groups. Their duties include building digital security protocols, operating a cyber security system and maintaining an IT security infrastructure for their organization or their clients’ organizations.

The Senior Security Engineer is a flexible and multi-skilled individual. They may primarily be an engineer, but their tasks may range from Security Operations to Security Architecture, as dictated by the cyber landscape. We are looking for attitude and ability to adapt. No candidate is going to have all of the skills listed, but we are looking for difference makers who feel they are a jack of all trades Security Engineer.

What You'll Be Doing:

Security Engineers are the first line of defense against malicious actors in the IT industry. They screen their company’s critical IT infrastructure for weaknesses and create robust countermeasures to prevent future incidents. Security Engineers also train employees on security best practices and advice management on investments to safeguard the company’s computer and network systems.

Roles and Responsibilities could include:

  • Develop, execute and track the performance of security measures to protect information and network infrastructure and computer systems.
  • Design computer security strategy and engineer comprehensive cybersecurity architecture.
  • Identify, define and document system security requirements and recommend solutions to management.
  • Configure, troubleshoot and maintain security infrastructure software and hardware.
  • Install software that monitors systems and networks for security breaches and intrusions.
  • Analyze security systems and seek improvements on a continuous basis.
  • Find cost-effective solutions to cybersecurity problems.
  • Align security services and activities to business objectives.
  • Monitor systems for irregular behavior and set up preventive measures.
  • Plan, develop, implement and update company’s information security strategy.
  • Educate and train staff on information system security best practices.
  • Develop a set of security standards and practices.
  • Create new ways to solve existing production security issues.
  • Recommend security enhancements to management.
  • Install and use software, such as firewalls and data encryption programs.
  • Assist with installation or processing of new security products and procedures.
  • Conduct scans of solutions and networks to find vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct penetration testing.
  • Monitor networks and systems for security breaches or intrusions.
  • Install software that helps with notification of intrusions.
  • Developing automation scripts to handle and track incidents.
  • Test security solutions using industry standard analysis criteria.
  • Supervise changes in software, hardware, and user needs.

What You'll Need:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field or relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ work experience as a Security Engineer.
  • Familiarity with major regulatory frameworks like ISO, SOC2, GDPR.
  • Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols.
  • Proven experience implementing, integrating, and maintaining security systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of operating system and database security.
  • Hands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
  • Proficiency in networking technologies, network security and network monitoring solutions.
  • Knowledge of security systems including anti-virus applications, content filtering, firewalls, authentication systems and intrusion detection and notification systems.
  • Familiarity with web related technologies (Web applications, Web Services, Service Oriented Architectures) and of network/web related protocols.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to solve complex problems.
  • Basic coding skills for performing integrations, implementations, admin, etc.
  • Experience in building and maintaining security systems.
  • Experience at a Telco or FI is a nice to have.
  • International Exposure and Experience is an asset to support with Host Country Processing setup.
