Umami Bioworks is looking to hire an inquisitive, innovative, and independent MSAT - Bioprocess Executive to join our R&D team in India.

About the role:

We are looking for Bioprocess Executive to join our MSAT team to translate our cultivation process from bench to production scale and deliver that process to customer-operated sites. The individual should be goal-oriented, forward-thinking and self-motivated with a strong ability to work collaboratively with production and R&D teams. This role will involve:

  • Assisting in setup, operate and monitor or cell culture processes ranging from 10L to 1KL and also operate associated sensors and production equipment
  • Assisting in developing strategies to improve the overall reliability and productivity of bioprocesses.
  • Preparing and maintaining cell cultures and media in a sterile environment and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sterilization and cleanliness procedures
  • Operating and monitoring analytical instruments such as cell counters, pH meters, osmometers and pressure gauges to ensure that cell culture conditions are within safe ranges at all times.
  • Maintenance of production equipment, including shakers, stirrers, production bioreactors and downstream equipment.
  • Maintaining detailed records of cell culture processes and batches to support process development, regulatory requirements, and technology transfer to 3rd party sites.
  • Handling and protecting confidential and sensitive data with integrity.
  • Performing related work and other duties, as assigned.

Education:

  • B.S. + 6 years (MS + 4 years) of industry experience in production environment
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bioprocess development, Biotechnology or related field.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years experience with animal cell culture in production reactors of at least 1 kL
  • 1-2 years experience with immature process development/scale-up in bench-scale reactors (250mL to 10L)

Skills:

  • Operation and handling of single-use and stainless steel production bioreactors, maintenance, and related control software.
  • Bioprocess development, including some combination of batch, fed batch and continuous production processes.
  • Capable of working within a diverse team of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong spoken and written English language skills.
  • Able to rapidly learn and get up to speed on new technologies

Location:

  • India/Bengaluru
  • This role will involve a site assignment to a customer site in Penang, Malaysia for much of the 1st year to transfer processes and technology to an UMAMI customer.

You will work directly with other members of our small but growing team to do cutting-edge science and will have the autonomy to test new ideas and identify better ways to do things.
