About the Role
As a Non-Functional Engineer Lead, Quality, you lead the strategy and execution of performance, reliability, and resilience engineering for enterprise-grade applications. You ensure systems meet demanding non-functional requirements across scale, availability, and security in a regulated payments environment. Success is measured by predictable performance, high availability, and production stability across complex distributed systems. This role is based in Warsaw, Poland.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead non-functional quality strategy across performance, scalability, resilience, and availability.
- Design and execute performance, load, stress, and endurance testing for critical applications.
- Analyze system behavior using monitoring and observability tools to identify bottlenecks.
- Partner with engineering and architecture teams to embed quality early in the SDLC.
- Drive performance optimization across Java applications, databases, and middleware.
- Establish CI-driven quality gates using automated unit, integration, and non-functional tests.
- Validate application behavior across application servers and containerized environments.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and lead root-cause analysis.
- Mentor engineers on non-functional testing practices and quality engineering standards.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience in application development and quality engineering.
- Strong expertise in Java (JDK 8/17), JEE, Maven, Hibernate, EJB 3.1, MQ, SQL, REST, XML, XSD, and JSON.
- Proven experience monitoring and analyzing application performance characteristics.
- Advanced skills in designing performance, high availability, and resilience tests.
- Experience with continuous integration using Jenkins and automated test frameworks.
- Solid knowledge of application servers including WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss, and Open Liberty.
- Strong database expertise with Oracle or PostgreSQL, including performance tuning.
- Proficiency working in Linux-based environments and container platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
- Knowledge of Kafka or event-driven architectures.
- Experience in payments domains such as SEPA or SWIFT messaging.
- Advanced REST API design and optimization experience.
- Deep PostgreSQL performance and scalability expertise.
